GRID PROFITS AS UK JOBS SUFFER
Reacting to the news of
National Grid’s 16 per cent rise in underlying pre-tax profit for
the six months to the end of September Gary Smith, GMB National
Secretary said, “This company is in the process of sacking
hundreds of UK workers in the Shared Services functions which
effect workers in Northampton, Warwick and the closure of Newcastle
and off-shoring their jobs to India. And they choose now to look
smug about this huge increase in profitability.
UKenergy consumers need to understand how
a monopoly like National Grid can register further huge profits at
a time when we know more big energy price increases are in the
offing.”
