GMB PLEDGES TO STEP
UP FIGHT AGAINST EXPORT OF JOBS AT NATIONAL GRID AS COMPANY CONFIRM
OVER 300 JOB LOSSES AT NEWCASTLE, WARWICK AND
NORTHAMPTON
GMB will not accept
that National Grid which makes multi billions profits as a monopoly
supplier has the right to export these jobs from UK at a time of
very high unemployment across the land
National Grid confirmed
today that there would be over 300 job losses in the company. The
Newcastle site will be closed with a loss of 189 jobs in total of
which 163 are permanent jobs. The other 137 job losses will be at
the Warwick and Northampton sites. The Newcastle jobs are being
outsourced to India.

Secretary for Energy said “National Grid have been trying
to deny for many months what they have confirmed today. GMB will
not accept that this company which makes multi billions profits as
a monopoly supplier has the right to export these jobs from UK at a
time of very high unemployment across the land. We pledge to step
up our fight to stop this national greed”
